Services

Parent Sessions

Prior to in-person sessions, parents will connect with one of our specialists virtually to conduct a parent session. The session will include a complete assessment of your child, discussion of their history, how they cope, and if applicable, their medical history. The specialist will also set goals and expectations for working with your child. Specialists will discuss ways parents can practically and effectively support their child and their coping plan. The session will also review resources for your child, as well as the discussion of advocacy support.

Parent Coaching

The work of a child life specialist is not always directly with the child. Many parents/caregivers benefit from connecting with a specialist to receive coaching support for their child. This model works especially well in cases where children are struggling with separation anxiety and other life changes. Parents will be provided with scripts with developmentally-appropriate language tailored to fit the needs of the child and family. The specialist will also discuss possible questions that the child might ask during a tough conversation, and how parents can provide appropriate answers confidently and honestly. During parent coaching sessions, specialists will teach parents practical and useful ways to support their child, aid in their coping plan, and advocate for their needs in school, medical appointments, or extracurricular activities.

To determine if Kid Cope is the right fit for your family, we are happy to offer a brief phone or email consultation with a parent or caregiver.
